Red Bud Manor was built by one of Eureka’s famous and historical women, Franciska Massman. A colorful businesswoman, she was famous for her rapid fire clear-cutting and homesteading tactics. According to the St. Louis Republican on September 11, 1879, “a large part of Eureka Springs (the newly platted town) was held in claims belonging to Benjamin Woodruff, William Evans and the well-known Franciska Massman who owned and operated a sawmill further down Leatherwood Creek”. This historic Colonial Revival home became one of the first five Bed and Breakfasts Inns in the early 1980’s of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. |

Eco-friendly Practices of Red Bud Manor Bed and Breakfast Inn
Sustainability has long been a practice within Eureka Springs, Arkansas, the only city in America whose entire historic downtown is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Repurposing of historic homes to Bed and Breakfast Inns has been a long standing practice. Adding new eco-friendly practices allows continued learning of better ways to provide great hospitality while loving the environment.
Here are some of the eco-friendly steps taken by Red Bud Manor Bed and Breakfast Inn. Perhaps you will consider implementing many of these green ideas, and share with us your ideas/suggestions to help us become even more of a "green bed and breakfast", and to help us all become better stewards.

1. All laundry for Red Bud Manor is done in-house, with energy star appliances. Drying time is greatly diminished. Laundry is washed and rinsed on cold, with all stains pre-treated with environmentally friendly product.
2. Laundry detergent and cleansers are biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
3. Cotton towels and linens of the finest quality are used in each guest room. This helps the air quality cotton linens don’t add VOCs to the air. Synthetic fabrics are sustainable because of their reliance on petrochemicals.
4. A towel reuse program is in place to reduce the water and energy use of washing towels daily.
5. Compact fluorescent bulbs are used throughout the inn and solar lighting is used for exterior lighting.
6. Curbside recycling is available in Eureka Springs and Red Bud Manor recycles every product possible. Recycling baskets are provided near every guest room.
7. Dishes, cups, glasses, mugs, tableware and serving pieces are long-lasting, not disposable.
8. Whenever possible, fresh fruit and vegetables are purchased from local organic farmers.
9. Native stone is used throughout the property to surround flowering shrubs and plants selected to feed hummingbirds, butterflies, bees, and bumblebees.
10. An herb garden planted outside the kitchen provides fresh flavors for the breakfast foods.
11. A culture of re-purposing exists at the inn. When an item no longer functions for its designated purpose, it creatively develops a new purpose. For example, towels no longer in service for guests become cleaning rags.
12. Linens that are taken out of service are recycled to local charitable organizations.
13. Eureka Springs has a Trolley System to reduce air pollution and fuel consumption.
